The question is if the transmission is a standard or an automatic, if it is a standard then the transmission is located directly behind the bell housing which is bolted onto the rear of the engine, if it is an automatic then the transmission is bolted directly to the rear of the engine
the front bearings on the 1989-thru-1997 ford thunderbird/mercury cougar cannot be changed, the whole front hub comes as one piece and have to be replaced as a single unit.
I have a p0708 code on this cougar 1999 2.5 with a p0420 code also what sensor should i replace
check to make sure its the tranny. cougars have problems with the transmission sensor which can cause it to buck or feel like its grabbing gears at the wrong time. a whole tranny replaced with labor about $700-$1400 depending on where. sensor with labor $250-$780ish id say
You didn't explain much of what was wrong, but with my cougar I thought it was the latch, but it was actually having to replace the bushings in the door hinge. It used to be that you could just by the bushings kit, but now you have to by the whole set up.
Big job. You have a choice, remove the whole engine with the transmission, or just the transmission. Either way you have to be equipped with the right tools. Best is to find someone to do the job for you. It will cost.
Only the Florida subspecies of the cougar is endangered, The species, as a whole, is in no danger.
99% of all park-brake switches are located near the park-brake mount. In the 99 cougar, you will need to remove the console as a whole, and you should see a normally closed switch, that gets depressed when the park-brake is down.
If you drained the pan, it will take about 4-4 1/2 qts to fill it. If you drained the whole transmission it will take more like 8 or 9.
Only the Florida panther subspecies of the cougar is in danger. The population of the species as a whole is quite healthy.

It is the same as an '01 Cougar. You will have to removie the grill, and two screws. You will also have to loosen a screw near the reservoir for the washer fluid. Once you have done this you will need to disconnect the cables and remove the whole housing. It should be pretty smooth and self-explanitory from there. It is the same as an '01 Cougar.
