I ran into the same issue. what i found out is our vans(I have same year) have faulty dpfe sensors which makes the computer think it is a egr valve, hence the 401 code. I changed my egr had to reset computer 3 times. I went to carquest today and the guy new the issue. the only problem I am having is the improved sensor has 3 prongs, the old has 2. carquest computer said you might need a new pigtail. The problem with that is they are 3 wire. I was googling that now and found your question. Just figured i would try and save you a little running around. Now for your question. Remove your filter housing and look straight back on the left hand side. you will see the egr vale clearly if you know what you are looking for. remove your dog house and from the passenger side look between the engine and the fire wall. you will need a flash light . look for the green vac hose from the egr, wiring harness and two vac hoses below it. that is the sensor. it looks like you will need to remove one nut from the dog side and one from the engine side. i will let you know when i figure out the wiring issue.

Where is the DPFE Sensor and the EGR Valve on a Ford E150 van?

The DPFE sensor is the back pressure sending sensor that controls the EGR valve. The Location ( on a 99 E150 ) is on the driver's side upper rear area of the engine. It is best to remove the inside engine cover to get to it. You can see it from the hood area if you shine a light and look back to the area looking above the mass air flow sensor then along where the 3rd back spark plug is. Look for a silver rectangular device about 2 " tall X 4" long 1" thick. It has a plug to the rear on the face and two 3/8" hoses coming out and going down from it. To replace or check voltage etc. take the inside engine cover off ( some people refere to this as the "Dog House" ) . Hope this helps. I know I could not find the location on the net so I thought I would share.

Where is the location of the erg sensor on 1994 ford e150?

The EVP (EGR Valve Position) sensor is mounted atop the EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) valve near the right side of the throttle body (5.0L and 5.8L). The entire assembly is near the front of the right side of the engine. The EVP sensor has a three-wire electrical connector and attaches to the EGR valve with three small screws. The sensor is mounted in the same location atop the EGR valve on the 4.9L (inline 6) however the entire assembly is nearer the mid-point (fore-to-aft) of the engine.
