Most Automatic Transmissions have a dipstick that is in the engine compartment. This is where you fill and check the level of fluid in the AT. Some are factory sealed and will not have a dipstick or handy filler, but are filled at the factory through a plug that is at the correct lcase evel of the fluid. Motorcycles, Differentials and manual transmissions use this type of filler. Most apps that dont employ a torque convertor can be filled on a bench (not running) while most Torque convertor apps are filled while running as the convertor holds more fluid while turning (imagine a washing machine spin cycle and all the water is forced to the outside wall, now turn that on its side) When you turn off an AT, the fluid level actually rises as the convertor drains out to the pan. That is why sometimes you have a leak when the car sits for a while, the fluid level is higher than when it is running.

What is the proper technique for checking transmission fluid?

Each vehicle can be different. Manuals tend to have fill plugs, where the fluid is set to the bottom of the hole with the engine off. Most automatics have dipsticks. It depends on the transmission if it is checked in park or neutral with the engine running.

Where is the transmission dipstick on a 1998 dodge ram with manual transmission?

There is no dipstick. You check the fluid through the fill hole on the side of the case. The fluid should be level with the bottom of the hole.

How do you add Transmission fluid to a manual 1995 Jeep Wrangler?

On the drivers side of the transmission there are two plugs, they take a torx bit. One is about mid way up the side, and the other is on the bottom, bottom is for draining, and the other is for filling. Fill until fluid runs back out of the hole, you are done.

2001 Saturn and just recently transmission fluid started leaking out was told that there is a hole in the transmission - can you explain what that means?

What his means is that the fluid is leaking out of a hole or crack in some part of the pipework through which the transmission fluid flows. Park it on a flat clean surface and see where the fluid is dripping out onto the ground. The hole will be somewhere above the drip.

What causes a 2001 Chevy Malibu to lose pressure in the transmission?

Usually it is from low fluid. If fluid level is good it is time for a new transmission. There is no transmission dipstick. Fluid must be checked on a lift with engine running. Remove 7/16" bolt just above pan on Passenger side. Add fluid until it runs out of this hole. Car must be level when checking. Not jacked up.

Where do you put new transmission fluid in Mazda 626 manual Transmission 1996?

AnswerThe same place that you drain it. You will need a funnel and a long piece of preferrably clear hose to fit on the end of the funnel. You feed that hose into the drain hole of the transmission, while you sit the funnel in the engine compartment and slowly fill. You can check the level of fluid by inserting your finger into the drain hole of the transmission. Keep filling until you can feel the level of oil with your finger. The tranny requires 75W/90 gear oil.Where do you drain the fluid?

Where is the manuel transmission fill hole for a 1999 cougar?

I just did this about a month ago. Jack up the front end, just enough to comfortably reach under the front end to the transmission. Also it will move the fluid to the back, which might be a good thing if you are filling it. The fill hole is located on the front of the lower transmission housing. You should see a bolt or an inverse square-drive plug. Remove this and use a fluid transfer pump to add or remove fluid as necessary

Where do you add transmission fluid to a 1992 300ZX?

Pour the transmission fluid down the hole the transmission dip stick goes in. You will need a funnel to do it right. WRONG! Do not pour transmission oil into your engine oil compartment! There is no dipstick for transmission oil, at least not on the manual transmission. To fill the transmission, you must pump or pour fluid into the fill hole on the side of the transmission until it dribbles back out.

How much differential fluid does a 2003 jeep rubicon require in each differential?

Fill to the bottom of the "fill hole". When the fluid starts to drip out of the hole that you are filling in the diff, then you are full.
