in 1980 Alex Pachecho exposed a lab in Silver Springs, Maryland and leaked photos depicting abused monkeys, and it caused quite the upset. The incident caused the first case about animal rights to reach Supreme Court, the first ALF cell, and created widespread recognition for the animal rights cause. The Silver Springs Monkeys caused PETA to become what it is today. It also was a huge factor in amending the Animal Welfare Act in 1985
