I thought it was made in Springfield Armory or such. However, all the ones that I find on auction(internet) were made by Robbins and Lawrence in Windsor, VT in 1850. This makes sense because the US Gov't could issue a contract to any of its manufacturers if the need arised.
The 1841 Mississippi was a very popular gun with the Confederacy during the Civil War, most of which stayed in .54 Caliber while those used by the Union were re-bored to .58 Caliber.
