It can not be known with certainty but it is likely that it was in the Middle East or Eurasia during the early days of Christianity when a hydraulis was brought into a sanctuary.
According to Acts of the Apostles, chapter 2: Jesus' disciples were gathered in Jerusalem per His instructions (Acts 1:4). On the first Day of Pentecost (a Jewish feast day) following the ascension of Jesus, the Holy Spirit came upon His disciples with the sound of a "rushing mighty wind," appearing as tongues of fire (Acts 2:3) and imparting miraculous abilities, as Jesus had earlier promised (Luke 12:12; John 14:26). The timing of the event was no accident, as devout Jews from far and wide were in Jerusalem for the feast (Acts 2:5). Attracted by the sound, a crowd gathered (v.6) and was confounded and amazed to find a group of Galileans speaking of the "wonderful works of God" (v.11) in a language that everyone heard as their own (v.6-8). All were perplexed; some mocked the disciples as drunkards (v.12, 13). Peter stood up, got everyone's attention, and beginning from the prophet Joel (v.17), preached the first "gospel" sermon of salvation through obedience to Christ, concluding with: "Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ." (Acts 2:36). Acts 2:37-43 - Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, "Men and brethren, what shall we do?" Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call." And with many other words he testified and exhorted them, saying, "Be saved from this perverse generation." Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them. And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers. Then fear came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles. The events of that day fulfilled Christ's prophecy of the establishment of His church, and in the days to follow, "the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved." (v.47). This is the first time the church is spoken of as being in existence.
The first church was built by Reverend Richard Johnson in Sydney (1793).
