A wooden object believed to be a mask, resembling the face of an anteater, was found in Angola. It dates to 800 AD. There are also rock paintings of masked dancers from the early neolithic; about 8,000-5,000 B.C. in Tassili, Southern Algeria, which at the time was inhabited by Black Africans.
