The Huns were nomadic people who raided through much of Europe during the early 5th century, before the fall of the West Roman Empire. By the time the Early Middle Ages (Dark Ages) started, they had mostly withdrawn. It is said some large number of them settled in Hungary, and were ancestral to the Hungarians, or Magyars. Though this happened in the historic period of the Roman Empire, it was prehistoric in the area where it happened, and there are no precise records of this.

The Greek Dark Ages began in about the year 1200 BC. There is no exact year for their beginning. Clearly, the Greek Dark Ages and the Dark Ages were not the same thing, and they were not really related, as the Dark Ages began in the middle of the 5th century AD.
