Let's examine this question:

Which president died after inauguration?

Technically, by common sense, all except James "Jimmy" Earl Carter (39), George Hebert Walker Bush (41), William "Bill Jefferson Clinton (42), George Walker Bush (43), and Barack Hussein Obama II (44). There are only five US Presidents of the United States of America still living today [May 26, 2011]. To properly answer this question, thirty-nine of the forty-four (so far) are still living today.

To answer this question by which presidentssss died after inauguration before his term was up! William Henry Harrison served the shortest term in the history of all the presidents of the United States elected under the United States Constitution [September 17, 1787] as our ninth. He served from March 4, 1841 to April 4, 1841. He was the first president ever to die in office. It was because in his inagural address, he did not want to wear any hat or coat or something like that to show the people how strong he was in a sense. He gave the longest inagural address in history as far as I know of: About two hours long and 10,000 WORDS! He got a cold afterwards; that cold later turned to pneumonia that he eventually died of. Thus, vice president, John Tyler became our tenth president.

After James Knox Polk came Zachary Taylor who served starting from Sunday, March 4 (TECHNICALLY Monday, March 5), 1849 and he also died before his term expired on July 9, 1850. Vice President, Millard Fillmore took over till March 4, 1853.

Our Twenty-ninth president, Warren Gamaliel Bancroft Winnipeg Harding, died perhaps of a heart attack on August 2, 1923. Thus he served from March 4, 1921 to August 2, 1923. Vice President, John Calvin Coolidge then took the oath of office after midnight on August 3, 1923.

Our Thirty-second president, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, was elected four times. After that, it was written in the American Constitution that one president can only serve only two terms. Anyway, He served from March 4, 1933 and died while in office in Warm Springs, Georgia on April 12, 1945 and Harry S Truman became our Thirty-third president. Franklin Delano Roosevelt did not officially see the end of World War II, but was super close to it.

These are the presidents who have been assassinated while still in office:

The first one in history is Abraham Lincoln, our sixteenth president. He was shot in the head at Fords Theater on April 14, 1865 and died the next morning. He served from March 4, 1861 to April 15, 1865 at seven twenty-two in the morning. He was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth who was later shot on April 26, 1865.

Forty year after William Henry Harrison, twentieth president, James Abram Garfield, served from March 4, 1881, shot twice in the back by Charles Julius Guiteau on July 2, 1881. James Abram Garfield died on September 19, 1881.

William Mckinley was shot and assassinated. He died on September 14, 1901.

John Fitzgerold Kennedy was assassinated on November 22, 1963 in Texas; it is known that he was assassinated by Lee Harvey Oswald. Lee Harvey Oswald was shot and killed by Jack Ruby and Jack Ruby died before his second trial.
