Aaron Burr.

After a series of long standing bitterness, political opposition between Aaron Burr and Alexander Hamilton, and perpetual slander of Burr by Hamilton, Burr had challenged Hamilton formally to a duel, which Hamilton accepted.

In 1804, after incumbent Vice President Burr was dropped from Thomas Jefferson's reelection campaign ticket, for President, as his Vice Presidential candidate, Burr campaigned then for the Governor of New York, the same year, independently, and lost. Hamilton had maneuvered and rallied against Burr, both to defeat Burr's being nominated for reelection for Vice President, and when Burr campaigned for Governor of New York. Hamilton published letters, editorials, anything he could place in print, to discourage anyone's support or vote for Burr.

After Burr was defeated in the 1804 New York Gubernatorial race, he finally had had his fill of Alexander Hamilton, and challenged Hamilton to a duel.

On July 11, 1804, the two met in Weehawken, New Jersey at 2pm. Hamilton's shot missed Burr, and Burr hit Hamilton in the abdomen. Hamilton died, the following day, and Burr was charged with a series of crimes, but murder both in New Jersey, and New York.

Aaron Burr, but only if killing a man in a duel counts as murder, which it generally didn't in 1804. One President, Jackson, had also killed men in duels.
