There is no specific rules, as the companies may become non-kosher in a matter of minutes. If the mashgiach, kosher supervisor, sees a violation of the kashrus, the approval given by that agency (or Rabbi for that matter) is immediately revoked. Check for a reliable kosher symbol, and you should be in good shape!

Sorry, unfortunately trident gum isn't to be chewed by vegetarians, and people who eat kosher or halal foods. Trident is made with Gelatin, a common ingredient in Chewing Gum, marshmallows, and other jelly foods. The gelatin is problematic in this case because it comes from non-kosher/halal animals including often pigs.

kosher means the same thing with gum that it means with any food item: The food item is fit for use by Jews. It doesn't contain any non kosher ingredients and wasn't prepared with non kosher equipment.

Specifically, things that are likely to make gum unkosher, include:

  • gelatin
  • any animal products
  • processing the gum on equipment or with utensils that have touched animal products
