In reality both because what PR has DR has it also, DR is a tropical island so is PR, PR has beautiful beaches so does DR (check out Bavaro Beach, Las Terrenas or Juan Dolio there the most beautiful beachs DR has), PR has cool Beach Resorts and Hotels so does DR. Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic's only difference it's the size of island (Dominican Republic is bigger and shares the west with Haiti) and the money, Dominican has it's own money called Peso Dominicano while PR the US Dollar. DR is an independent country and PR is a libieral associateive state of the US.

Not only does the Dominican Republic (d.r for short) share a side of an island with haiti and it is still bigger than puerto rico , d.r has a very very large amount of resorts beautiful beaches and delicious food. Besides traveling to puerto rico is the same as staying here in America, except worse.
So all in all dont waste your time with puerto rico d.r is a free independent country, if it wasnt for the u.s puerto rico would be nothing

Politically, Dominican Republic is an independent country with full power over its territory (sovereignty); Puerto Rico is a self-governing US territory (neo-colony); therefore puertorricans are US citizens, dominicans are not.
DR has a larger area.
DR is traditionally a melting pot of people from spanish, french, African, Haitian and taino descent.

∙ 9y agoBoth places are very much alike; especially Punta Cana located in eastern DR. However, if you are interested in night clubs and partying, Cancun has more and better infrastructure. On the other hand, if you are looking for a relaxing athmosphere, DR is your best bet.
