The stomach bacteria most often responsible for causing ulcers in humans is Helicobacter Pylori. This bacteria can inhibit the stomach and the early portion of the small intestines. Currently, it is estimated that over half the world's population harbor this bacteria (although its prevalence in developed countries is lowering). Its released enzymes causes inflammation in the stomach lining and leads to the development of ulcers.
