It depends because in Americas case a country is much bigger, because America is composed of many states put together. But some places a state is a country. Overall I would say that more often than not countries are bigger.
In almost all contexts, "country" and "state" mean the exact same thing. Only in the United States of America are "States" usually thought of as a subdivision of a country. So, usually a country and a state have the same amount of land, since usually they're the same thing.
The state that has more land is Texas.
