The senate gives equal representation to each state, two representatives from each state.

The house of representatives is sometimes called the peoples' house because it gives states with more people more representatives than states with fewer people. While this seems unequal, it is a fair way to represent the people.

How did the Great Compromise create a legislature with representation which respected the population of large states and safe guarded and equalized the small states?

It proposed a bicameral legislative branch. The upper house, the senate, would have two representatives from each state. This satisfied the small states' plea for equal representation in Congress. The lower house, The House of Representatives, would please the large states in the way that state representation in the House was based off population. Larger states had more representation in the House, but representation was equal in the senate.

Why did some people want representation to be based on population?

With regard to representation in the House of Representatives, states are represented according to their populations. Representation in the Senate is based on 2 delegates per state, regardless of population.

Can a small state lose representation?

no, every state gets equal represantation in Senate, 2 senators per state. Representation in the House of Representatives is based on population. bigger states have more representatives. the only way for a small state to lose representation would be in the House of Representatives and there would have to be no one living in the state, which is basically impossible.

What was the Philadelphia Compromise of 1778?

The small states thought it was going to be unfair if the big states had more representatives than the small ones. The smaller states like Delaware wanted equal representation. The Great Compromise was when the leaders of each state decided to have the Senate and the House of Representatives. The Senate has equal number of representatives and the House has representatives based on population.

In the House of Representatives. Each state has 2 senators in the Senate but a state's representation in the House depends on the size of the population.

Why are there two houses in congress?

The founding fathers thought that two houses would protect the rights of the people. It also provided a way of giving small states an equal say in the senate, while allowing the larger population states to feel like they had the advantage in the House of Representatives. The constant requirement to pass bills by both of the groups helps insure that there is less hanky panky going on and fewer deals being made that could hurt the people.

Why is the house more diverse than the senate?

The House of Representatives is more diverse than the Senate because it has a larger membership, with 435 members compared to the Senate's 100 members. This allows for more varied representation in terms of race, ethnicity, gender, and political background. Additionally, House seats are allocated based on population, which means that districts with higher concentrations of minority populations have the potential to elect minority representatives.

Does the US have a legislative body?

The United States of America does indeed have a legislative body, known as Congress. It is composed of the Upper House (Senate) and Lower House (House of Representatives); the former is more closely associated with "trustee" representation and the latter is more closely associated with "delegate" representation, due to the nature of terms and roles.

Who would have been with their representation in the house small states or large states?

Unlike the Senate where every state receives two representatives, House representation is based on state population. So, more populated states would receive more representatives than less populated states.
