Both are terribly paltry by most standards. You would need to analyze your particular need for a hard drive, and why you do not want a larger one. If you can make do with a smaller capacity drive, then how little can you do with? Is 10 GB enough for your needs?
Actually the original xbox has a 10 gig harddrive (formatted to 8 gig) for ripping your music cds into a digital format. It also serves for game saves.
The internal Hard Drive in a computer has an average life span of 10 years. If a computer is nearing this age it is a good idea to have an external hard drive to back up your files in case of a crash.
A gig is an informal abbreviation for gigabyte. i.e. 10 gigabytes can be referred to as 10 gigs.

Minecraft shouldn't take more than 1 or 2 gigs of free memory if you are not doing much(example, mining, idling on singleplayer) If you are on a heavy traffic Minecraft server, or if you have a lot of mods, Minecraft could use from 4 to 10 gigs of free ram. If you are asking about hard drive, it can be around one half to one gig of hard drive space.
First check to see if you have any previously saved files and if you formatted with a disk then try formatting your hard drive manually but only do this if you have the software to reinstall windows. first go to run then type in cmd to get the command prompt wich is a black screen where you can type commands to give to your computer. second type in "format (the drive where your hard drive is): then hit enter then when it asks whether or not you want to erase your internal memory type y for yes or if you are not sure you want to do this then type n for no. (hit enter to procede) after your hard drive is formatted then you can try reinstalling it. in your case with a 10 gig hard drive it should take around 15 min to format it because it takes me 30 min to format my 20.4 gig hard drive. this format command can also be used to do several other things such as if you have floppy disks just type format a: and insert the disk and hit enter to erase the floppy. Also a quicker way to format your hard drive that is not as thorow (pretty sure i spelled that wrong) is typing: format (drive): /q the q means quick so it will quickly format
10 hour's have a good drive
2.0 Gigabytes of Hard Drive space is pretty small for a home computer. I would suggest upgrading to a larger Hard Drive when a single song can be around 5-10 megabytes of space.
