It depends on your needs. The Moto X has very good battery life out of the box, customizable casing (via "Moto Maker"), active notifications, voice recognition, and quick Android OS updates. The specs on the phone are more mid-range however, but some may argue that it doesn't hinder its daily use for the average consumer. The Nexus 5 is Google's flagship device, and as such gets Android OS updates ahead of anyone else. It was the first device to have Android OS 4.4 (KitKat) onboard. Specs were comparable to other flagship devices at the time of its release. Design is more understated, with a grip-friendly plastic casing that came in black, white or red. If it had a weak spot, its battery is average, not running as long as the Moto X.

Yes, you can buy the Moto X without a contract, either through Motorola directly, or an online retailer.
It mainly comes down to what would you want out of a phone. The Samsung Galaxy S4 has flagship-level specs and a plethora of features. The Moto X has mid-range specs, but has better overall user experience and hardware casing customization options.

Hi My mobile moto X model is not detecting sim card. I couldn't see network signal. What is solution ? Thanks Motorola Service
Yes, the Moto X in both carrier and unlocked form should work on Straight Talk. I would suggest that if you have a carrier-based Moto X now, you would pick a Straight Talk service that uses the same network (ex: AT&T to Straight Talk AT&T).
The phone's tutorial may be describing the original camera app the Nexus 5 came with. As of this writing, the Nexus 5's camera app has been upgraded multiple times with each Android OS 4.4.x iteration. The version out now is version 2.2.024. It's expected to change again with the Android 5.0 OS (Lollipop) release.
