Nearly all the fruits and veggies are required. Papayas are excellent for the stomach, bananas are high in Potassium, etc. In veggies leafy greens keep the colon clean! Carrots are good for the eyes, yams are great, especially women because they have naturally occurring estrogen and so on.
Blueberries, blackberries, grapes and strawberries top the list for number of antioxidents! All dark leafy greens are great, espically the super food spinach. Try to eat organic if possible.
Given the wide range of options, it's not really possible to say. We are literally comparing apples and Oranges. What fruit, and what vegetables? I'd place spinach or broccoli a bit higher up than plain apples or oranges. But say, wild blueberries and pomegranates to iceberg lettuce or celery? I'd go with the fruits there. A picture of health is one of balance, and really the question is irrelevant and abstract. You haven't been marooned on a desert island, kidnapped by savages andforced to choosebetween eliminating fruits or vegetables from your diet for all eternity (if you have, I'm quite flattered that you'dconsult me). You live with a near-limitless quantity of available fruits and vegetables, frozen or otherwise. Both are so calorically non-densethat you'd never need to chose between one at the expense of consuming less of the other. Consider this: a pound of brocolli contains only 120 calories, a pound of fruit, perhaps 300. You could easily consume 12+ servings of fruits and vegetables without using even a third of yourneeded calories on a standard 2000 calorie diet. So eat up.
Its not a question of which is healthier for both are good for you. Its more important to make sure you have a balanced diet to include all the major food groups.
Another Reason They don't have the same balance of nutrients. Some things you get from vegetables, such as iron. I found the following on a US government health site: "Fresh fruit, including apricots, are not classified as good iron sources. The richest sources of iron include meat, poultry and fish. Grain products are also a good source of iron, particularly grain products that are iron enriched. Vegetables, legumes, nuts and soy also provide iron."
all vegetables are good for you. theyre all low in calories and high in fiber which will make you fuller faster and promote weight loss.
go for the green ones though. broccoli, spinach, asparagus. carrots are good too. i cook mine a lot, with a tiny tiny bit of of oil to add more flavor.
