In North India, the story of Lord Rama written in verse (Rama Charit Manas) in a local language (Awadhi) is considered very important. In Maharashtra, Gnaneshwari, a book written in Marathi is venerated. In Tamilnadu, it is Tolkappiyam written in Tamil. So, people in different regions of India venerate books written in their own language apart from the old books written in Sanskrit.
