Best Answer

It should actually be Saturday and not Sunday.

Saturday is the Sabbath for Jews and some Christians, but Catholics and most major Protestant sects observe Sunday as the Sabbath, but Catholics may attend Saturday evening Mass , as the Jews observe from sundown Friday to sundown Saturday, Catholics now may attend Mass from Saturday thru Sunday.

What does the bible verse in Matthew chapter 12 7mean?

>The Lord desires mercy not sacrifice, and the knowledge of God not burnt offerings; See Hosea 6:6. If we have a good understanding of the mind and will of God then we would not condemn the innocent. Jesus was defending His disciples against the Pharisees who criticized Him for allowing them to pluck ears of corn to eat on the Sabbath as they walked through the fields. Man was not made for the Sabbath but the Sabbath for man, he stated and then added that the Son of Man was also the Lord of the Sabbath(Mark 2:27-28). The Spirit of the Sabbath law was that man rested one day a week from his labour and devoted his time to God, family and mellowing out; On the other hand the Pharisees were all about the letter of the law. A good example of the blindness and evil intent toward the Son of God read Matthew 12:10-12, "…...Wherefore it is lawful to do well on the Sabbath days." This was not a question to them but a statement, it is lawful to do well on the Sabbath!!>

Why did Judah fall to the Babylonians?

Just as God had commanded Israel to keep the 7th day a sabbath rest and do no work on it, so they were supposed to also let the land have it's sabbath rest by letting it lie fallow and not using it every 7th year. However, this sabbath rest for the land had not been done in Judah for 490 years, so God caused the Babylonians to invade Judah, take the people to Babylon as captives , and leave the land desolate for 70 years to ensure the land had it's due sabbath rest.

What was the double purpose of the Sabbath in the old testament?

The twofold purpose of the Sabbath that comes to mind isn't limited to the "Old Testament," but lives on to this day and on into the future for anyone willing to see and obey it.As stated in God's Ten Commandments, the Sabbath day is, first of all, a CONTINUOUS WEEKLY REMEMBRANCE OF CREATION for all generations of mankind to acknowledge their Creator's Power, Wisdom and Understanding. That's how God wrote it down... to REMEMBER creation; as opposed to what the world has done by FORGETTING or NEGLECTING or REFUSING to remember it; teaching "evolution" instead -- "creation WITHOUT a Creator."The second purpose of the Sabbath is TO MARK GOD'S PEOPLE. The observance of the Sabbath is an IDENTIFIER, for the world to KNOW WHO GOD'S PEOPLE TRULY ARE! And to let them know who their God is. It is a PUBLIC SIGN or VISIBLE DISPLAY that ID's God's people to God's people, themselves... and the world:"...Verily MY SABBATHS [the weekly and the annual ones] YE SHALL KEEP: for IT IS A SIGN BETWEEN ME AND YOU throughout your generations; that YE MAY KNOW THAT I AM THE LORD that doth sanctify you [who sets you apart from all other nations for My Holy use - that's what sanctify means]." (Ex.31:13 KJV)"Wherefore the children of Israel shall KEEP THE SABBATH, to observe the Sabbath THROUGHOUT THEIR GENERATIONS [the generations of man didn't stop with the Old Testament], FOR A PERPETUAL COVENANT[agreement]." (verse 16)The world, of course, [or a small part of it, at least] reads this passage and reasons: "Oh... well, I'm not one of the children of Israel. I'm a Christian; so this doesn't pertain to me."But, Oh how wrong these people are. Abraham's TRUE children aren't his by his DNA or bloodline but by Faith in CHRIST'S SHED BLOOD!"Know ye therefore that THEY WHICH ARE OF FAITH, the same ARE THE CHILDREN OF ABRAHAM [and they are therefore - Israelites]." (Gal.3:7)"For ye are ALL THE CHILDREN OF GOD BY FAITH in Christ Jesus... There is neither Jew nor Greek [Gentile], there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for YE ARE ALL ONE IN CHRIST JESUS. And IF YE BE CHRIST's, then ARE YE ABRAHAM's SEED, and HEIRS according to the Promise." (verses 26-29)And if you are Christ's... therefore YOU ARE AN ISRAELITE... adopted into Abraham's "Faithful Family"... and therefore MARKED BY THE LORD's SIGN and His PERPETUAL SABBATH COVENANT [that it BE KEPT FOREVER]!The world little notes [or cares] that it was and is the Almighty Creator, WORD of God in the Old Testament who BECAME JESUS CHRIST in the New [see John 1:1-3]. And that it was JESUS CHRIST, the WORD, who MADE THE SABBATH ON THE SEVENTH DAY OF CREATION... and Who wrote the Ten Commandments on the stone tablets with His finger! And the vast majority of modern professing Christians who reject the Old Testament [and much of what the Bible says in general] either don't know... or don't believe Jesus, Himself, when He tells them that HE IS LORD WHO MADE THE SABBATH DAY! And that He IS THE ALMIGHTY CREATOR LORD GOD [who made all that is - see John 1:3] whom the Sabbath REMEMBERS!"...'The Sabbath day was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath: therefore THE SON OF MAN IS LORD also OF THE SABBATH." (Mark 2:27-28)The purpose of the Sabbath is to keep mankind in constant weekly REMEMBRANCE of CREATION every seventh day... and to serve as GOD'S MARK upon God's people, to IDENTIFY them as God's people, and, conversely, it IDENTIFIES God as their God.
