The Secretion of HCl by the parietal cell is stimulated by receptors for acetylcholine (muscarinic), histamine, and gastrin. The enterochromaffin cells (ECL) also have gastrin receptors and muscarinic receptors. ECL cells release histamine which reacts with H2 receptors (histamine 2 receptors) on parietal cells. Somatostatin is released by delta cells and decreases histamine release by ECL cells.
