Major retailers do not open on ANZAC Day although, because ANZAC Day falls on a Saturday in 2009, some stores will open after 1pm.

Retailers generally do not open on Good Friday, Easter Sunday or Christmas Day either. On Boxing Day, department stores are open for the post-Christmas sales, as they also sometimes are on New Years Day, but supermarkets are not open on these days.

Labour Day is also a holiday when most large retailers and supermarkets are closed.
