ANSWER #1
Islam.....of course
ANSWER#2
Determining the fastest growing religion in the world is debatable and despite statistics which show that Islam is that religion, there are several things to take into account. 1) The number of faithful fluctuates due to due to the birth rate as opposed to the death rate of any particular religious group. 2) Immigration, with particular reference to Islam is another matter to consider. People move to a largely Islamic country, become interested in Islam and may eventually convert. 3) Conversion to Islam in non-Islamic countries, especially in the USA is high. The conversion rate is currently high in the USA despite the atrocities of 11 September 2001. People are slowly getting over the idea that all Islamists are terrorists and are becoming curious about the religion.
Bearing all this in mind, Christianity is arguably the fastest growing religion with the number of faithful said to be approximately two billion. Islam, is said to be a close second with an adherence of approximately 1.3 billion. Other major relgions of the world eg. Hinduism claim an adherence figure of 870 million. Other religions, including Jainism, Sikhism, and the Bahai Faith claim figures ranging from approximately six million to twenty five million. It is also necessary to bear in mind that membership and practice of any religion are two completely different things.
Comment on the above
I must echo the excellent answer above (Answer 2) which answers the question well (unlike the silly Answer 1). In addition to Answer 2, in the UK over the last 20 years Islam has grown a great deal, but statistics can be deceptive. Rather than the number of new converts to Islam growing, much of the increase in the UK is due to large numbers of immigrants from Islamic countries coming to Britain. These are either coming here as commonwealth members, or are coming for political, religious or racial asylum. As they are free to practise their religion within the British borders, this gives the impression that Islam is growing. However, when we speak of new converts then Christianity is the fastest growing religion both in the UK and in much of the world. As a couple of examples, in South Korea, Christianity has mushroomed over the last 50 years - there are now many churches that have over 10000 members. The Yoido Full Gospel Church in Seoul has a staggering congregation - nearly 900,000, that meets in a vast hall on several sittings each Sunday. The other example is China, which had only 5000 Christians in the 1960s but which now has almost 100 million, and the number is still growing exponentially. If it continues at the same rate, it has been estimated that within 20 years, China will be predominantly Christian.
