Most religions are violent. Evidently the most wars caused in history were caused by Christianity. While in modern times most wars seem to originate from Islamic causes.

Islam, according to Tariq Ramadan, an Oxford Professor and European Muslim, recognizes that man exists in states of war and in states of peace and the Qur'an as a fundamental guide to the life in the real world has elements of violence and elements of peace-making, but emphasizes the peace-making. On account of this, Islam is probably not the most violent religion in the world as there are several faiths that have historically advocated for violence. However, Islam is certainly not the most peaceful. The most peaceful religion in the world is probably Jainism, which is strictly non-violent and strictly vegetarian.

Islam is never violent religion. If Islam calls for defending your lands and properties (called military Jihad) it does not mean violence. If Islam calls Muslims to struggle within them selves to be in the right path of God and not to commit sins, it does not mean violence, Islam calls for peace and tolerance. Refer to questions below.

∙ 10y agoIt's a relatively difficult question to answer, all religions have been used to justify violent action or start a war. In modern times, Islam would be the first choice by some due to the recent conflicts in the Middle East and possible bias held by Westerners as a result of Islamic extremist terrorism. However, the violence associated with Islam is fairly recent, for example with the conflict in Palestine increasing since the formation of Israel has gained world media action. It should also be noted that Islam is the 2nd largest religion in the world and relative the newest major religion compared to Budhism, Hinduism, Judism, and Christianity
But from a historical standpoint, by the deathtoll and wars started, Chrisitianity would be on top. When Christianity was formed it would be considered a cult by today's standards. Some of the most notable violent acts on behalf of Christians were The Crusades (started to take back the Holy Land from the Muslims; this is a example of violence on both religions), The Spanish Inquisition, enslavement of Africans in European colonies, Salem witch trials, genocides of Native Americans, The Holocaust, WWII, and most recently the Bosian War (notably the genocide of Muslims). The list could go on...
