That is still a question that hasn't been answered. What is known is the colonist threw snowballs with rocks in them and other things at the troops. This wasn't the first incident like this in the colonies and each time the colonist got more aggressive. The Son's of Liberty spun the story for Propaganda purposes and had Revere draw a handbill showing the troops firing first on unarmed people. They wanted a reaction against the British and to create an antiBritish feeling. John Adams was the lawyer for the men arrested and they were found not guilty.

Who fired upon fort Sumter?

Henry S. Farley, a Lieutenant, fired the first shot at Fort Sumter. The Battle of Fort Sumter marked the beginning of the American Civil War.

First shots of the war were fired here?

The American Civil War's first shots were fired at Fort Sumter, a fortress located in the harbor of Charleston, South Carolina. Occupied by Union troops, the fort had for months been a thorn in the side of the South Carolina Confederates: they finally fired upon it (then shortly occupied it) in April of 1861, thereby initiating the start of hostilities that would become the Civil War.

Was the first shot of the civil war fired by union or confederate?

Fort BarrancasThis is perhaps a bit on the short side and would profit from a fair amount of explanation. First, the likely answer. The first shot was fired by members of the union army stationed at Fort Barrancas under the command of Lieutenant Adam J. Slemmer. They fired on a group of southerners, probably Alabama militia, who were apparently attempting to cross the drawbridge to investigate claims that the fort had been abandoned.Second, some more detail. Fort Barrancas is in Pensacola, Florida. The shots were fired on or about January 8, 1861, which is several months before what is usually claimed as the first shots of the conflict (at Fort Sumter).

Who was general in Boston Massacre?

The Boston massacre was not a battle or a war. It was a street fight between British troops and future Americans. There are two interpertations of the massacre, one is the British side which said that the future US citizens had attacked, the other is the American side which says that the British troops attacked the people on the street. So there was no general leading the way, this was one of the events that led up to the reveloutnary war.

Why was the Boston massacre called a 'massacre'?

The Boston massacre was when the colonist were calling the red coats lobster backs and the Commander there said do not fire their guns but the did not hear it right so there was a killing of 5 people that day. That is why it is called the Boston massacre. Three civilians were shot and killed and a day later two more people were killed by a stabbing not a shooting.

How did the Boston massacre lead to the lexington and concord battle?

It didn't lead to Lexington and Concord. First, they were several years apart so there is no direct relationship and there were several "Boston massacre " type events before it. The difference was the propaganda handbills that were drawn by Revere to show the soldiers shooting colonists. It didn't happen the way it was shown and John Adams was the lawyer for the soldiers. They were found not guilty. The battle at Lexington wasn't planned by either side, and to this day no one knows who fired the first shot that morning. No matter that day did result in the first shots, but it still didn't result in the war. It will be another year before the Declaration of Independence and Bunker Hill. After Bunker Hill the king decided that the colonies were in rebellion and traitors to the king.

There was not a winning and a losing side in the Boston Massacre. Five Colonials died, and the soldiers were tried in civil court. Two were found guilty of manslaughter. But it was not a win nor a defeat. It was just a moment in history.
