The west side gained the most from the wall, because it wasn't controlled by the Soviet Union.
The west side was better. Better living conditions, and you were free from harassment from the state.

West Berlin
The Berlin Wall surrounded West Berlin. Therefore... Inside the Berlin Wall: West Berlin Outside the Berlin Wall: The two closest cities were Potsdam to the west, and East Berlin to the east.
The eastern side.
During the years the Berlin Wall divided the city in half, one side was capitalist and the other side was communist. The west side of the wall was the capitalist side.
The Berlin Wall didn't exist until 1961.
The Berlin Wall was torn down by the East German government, who owned it.
The Berlin Wall was patrolled by soldiers on the East German side and they had orders to fire on people trying to climb over the wall to West Berlin.

separated the east side from the west side of Berlin. It was built to prevent people from escaping from the eastern half of Berlin.
November 9, 1989. Their were 2 reason for building the wall. 1. Economics. Too many well-educated people moved from East Germany, and some worked in West Berlin and lived in East Berlin (it's cheaper there), so DDR lost money on this. 2. Political. The West side interfered with the East side (the Russian sector).
