For me, the site with the best bargain airfare is the one that's going to guarantee you the widest variety of options, including the lowest price. Because of the multitude of “bargain” airfare websites around the internet, it's impossible to go to one specific site to get the best price on any flight, anywhere, at any time. If that were the case, that one website would already have driven its competitors out of business. Some specialty sites have the best airfares to Europe, some to Asia, some for students, some for groups, etc. For my money, the best you can do is use a site like Kayak (www.kayak.com) which searches the majority of the major websites that list airfares (all the airlines, Orbitz, Expedia, Priceline, etc). Priceline itself is also a good option with its “name your own price” feature, but that often leaves you paying just a bit less than you would normally, and losing a lot of your flexibility.
