Berlin was reached by the Russians first in WW2. Russian & US forces came together on the river Elbe. There was much distrust between the Allies at this time, which led to become the 'Cold War'.

Soviet troops. The allies discussed what to do with Berlin. Since the Soviets fought the Germans the longest and caused 60% of allied casualties it was only fair to let the Red Army assault the city. Along which the Soviets assaulted the city with 2.5 million soldiers against the Wermachts 400,000 left defending the remnants of the Third Reich.

This answer is the Propaganda fed to the American people. I personally met and spoke in depth with a retired Army Colonel who was there. He was ashamed of what he told me. American troops entered Berlin long before the Reds. When Eisenhower was told of this, he immediately ordered all Americans out? A deal had been made with Stalin that his troops would take Berlin and reap the SPOILS. What happened as a result of that order is well documented. 2 million German women and girls were savagely raped and often murdered by Red Army soldiers, which Stalin had told his troops would be their reward. The Reds also robbed and pillaged at will, again with the blessings of their leader. The Colonel openly wept while telling me portions of the story. He said he still to this day, is ashamed of what happened with our Leaderships apparent permission. It's been 25 years since I was told that story, and it changed me forever. This is also the first time I've shared it.

What did Nikita Khrushchev say was the reason that Soviet troops captured Berlin in World War 2?

According to Nikita Khrushchev, Stalin and Eisenhower made a deal. Stalin claimed that he and the late US President Franklin D. Roosevelt had an agreement that Soviet troops should capture Berlin. Khrushchev pointed out that the Americans could have reached Berlin first. The Germans had concentrated the better part of their troops against the Soviet advance in order to surrender the capital to the Americans and the British. Stalin cited a letter he received from Roosevelt that because the Russians had lost so many lives to the Nazi's that they should be the ones to capture Berlin.
