It sounds like the torque converter has gone out. It spins and builds up the pressure of the fluid inside the tranny to spin the gears. If you don't have forward or reverse, I woudl look at the torque converter first.
Selnoid has gone out in the transmission not allowing it to downshift to first when slowing down then stopping.
The air craft is cordinatded in flight by movement of the vertical stabliser, this is opperated via the pedals. How ever by flipping the pedals up and pushing down they will opperate the main gear brakes ,for stopping and turning.
Sounds to me like it might be a broken transmission mount.
If you can feel the gear change from second to first when stopping you may need transmission fluids. The transmission could be slipping or going out also. Take the vehicle to a mechanic so that they can see what the problem is.

Just out of curiousity, how is the transmission in this vehicle. Could the transmission be out of sync with the engine? This has happened to me when i had the transmission replaced in a dodge caravan, Good Luck

The fluid could be too low to allow the transmission to shift. Depending on where the fluid leak is, the leak could be through a bad solenoid or soaking electrical connections, stopping the transmission from shifting.

Your transmission sensor is out. There are two of them. Usually, about $20.00 a piece. Find location from transmission guy. Easy to do yourself!
