These people are called the Aboriginal people
The original inhabitants of Canada are the Inuit and the Aboriginals. In the United States, the Inuit are often called Eskimo and the Aboriginals are called American Indians or Native Americans. Another group is called the Metis. They are descendants of the Aboriginals and people of European descent, especially French. The Aboriginals had been treated harshly by later settlers and the government, including attempts to eliminate native cultures. The government of Canada recognized that it had mistreated the original inhabitants and in 1998 issued an official apology, called the Statement of Reconciliation.
Many claim Aboriginal Status but in Canada you must be able to prove you are generically pure enough to qualify for a treaty number before being Aboriginal.
Of course that does not stop many people from claiming to be descended from one of the 600 tribes recognized as being in Canada before it was colonised by Europeans. Without recognition from the government the claim results in no more rights than any other Canadian or Metis-Canadian.
Aboriginal peoples of Canada are those recognized by the Canadian government as being aboriginal.
Historically though it isn't a racial issue. Those who inhabit the place are aboriginal. That would make Vikings aboriginal to Greenland, and Canadians aboriginal to Canada, but most use it as a racial term meaning Indian or Inuit.
The aboriginal peoples of Canada are those peoples whose ancestors were here before the arrival of Europeans. This includes the Inuit who live in the far north, the Indians, and the Métis who are of mixed Indian and European blood.
Aboriginal is a racial term used to describe people who were inhabitants of lands colonised by Europeans.
