The most important figures in Hinduism are the Deities, Vishnu being the most venerated.

Vishnu acts as a darma cop and comes to this earth in his avatar forms (Rama & Krishna) in order to restore order and darma to humanity. (Darma being the teachings of enlightenment) Vishnu has come to the earth in nine different forms. The tenth form we are still waiting for.

Shiva is also a popular Deity. Shiva represents renunciation and is often depicted isolated from society living in the mountains covered in ash from human cremation.
