The second seat is yet vacant pending the outcome of the race between Al Franken (Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party) and Norm Coleman (Republican, incumbent), which was separated by some 200 or so votes (by current count). The electrion, which was part of the 2008 political campaign that saw Barack Obama elected President, currently awaits the pleasure of the courts with Franken leading in the most recent ballot count.
