well im learning about slaves just now in history and there never really was a campiagn for emancipation (or maybe we havent covered that yet) but there was a large group of abolitionists who helped free an certain amount of slave. There was Fredrick Doulglas, The Grimke Sisters, slaves couldn't fully be free yet due to the south not wanting to give them up and there was no way to do it legally. In the Dred Scott case there was a slave who sued for his freedom but wasnt given it due to the Fifth Amendment (no taking away prpoerty woithout due process of law) and the slave didnt count as a person, just property.

How did southerners act to the emancipation proclamation?

The southerners reacted to the Emancipation Proclamation by starting attacks and being full of rage, because if their slaves escaped the Northerners could set them free because if the Union set them free then the slaves had to join the army or navy on the Union (North) side.

How did the Emancipation proclamation become a turning point in the civil war?

Contrary to popular belief, the Emancipation Proclamation's goal was not really to free slaves. It stated that all slaves in the 10 rebelling states were free. You see the problem here? With no control over the Confederacy, the Emancipation Proclamation had little effect on the slaves in the South. The Proclamation made freeing slaves an explicit goal of the Union war effort, and was a step towards outlawing slavery and conferring full citizenship upon ex-slaves.

What gave African American full citizenship?

The Emancipation Proclamation freed all slaves, but since US was separated at the time it was not recognized by southerners. Therefore few slaves were actually freed. After the Civil War however, the 13th amendment was issued and that is what gave them citizenship.

Did the emancipation really free the slaves?

The answer is both yes and no. The Emancipation Proclamation was a strategic move by Lincoln to break the slave-driven economy by the south, enacted after the devastating draw at the Battle of "Bloody" Antietam (near Sharpsburg, Maryland, September 17, 1862) The Emancipation Proclamation, dated September 22, 1862 (to take effect on January 1, 1863) would release the slaves in ONLY the thirteen Confederate states in open rebellion; slavery would still be legal in the Union "border" states of Missouri, Kentucky, Maryland, and Delaware until the passage of the 13th Amendment in 1865. A full text of the Emancipation Proclamation can be found on the National Archives' website below.

How did the slaves make out after they were set free by mr Lincoln?

Often not very well. It was actually the Thirteenth Amendment which freed the slaves, not the Emancipation Proclaimation. Unfortunately, when Rutherford B. Hayes began President, he had to do some wheeling and dealing with the House of Representatives (he actually lost the popular vote) and part of the deal was to undo Reconstruction, the program than was supposed to advance the former slaves to full citizenship.
