If you know about that particular action; you must've read the book (Marine Sniper) which came out in the mid 1980's. It was amongst the first of the Vietnam War books surfacing about then. Vietnam wasn't very popular until the film "Deer Hunter" came out in the late 70s. Then, like Vietnam, it escalated from there. Snipers were still covert specialized operations back then, there wasn't even a sniper school (anywhere in the US officially). Everything was hush hush, stealth, silent and deadly. Carlo's book doesn't say who he killed that day. In Vietnam, the enemy's ID tag was a communist rifle (AK, SKS, etc.). The man he shot had a commie rifle, he died. Note: The first time the average American ever saw an AK-47 or SKS was in Vietnam. The first time folks in the US saw them is when a returning GI brought one back as a war souvenir.

Canada has over a thousand, probably closer to two or so, soldiers in Afghanistan. Most of them are in the South. They play a large role in security operations there, and their Special Forces are on par with the U.S. or Britain's. I just learned recently that Canadian snipers broke and then re-broke Carlos Hathcock's record for longest sniper kill in 2002 during Operation Anaconda.
carlos hathcock a sniper for the u.s. army i think he was ranked a sergant The above information is incorrect, Carlos Hathcock although an amazing sniper achieving 93 confirmed kills during the Vietnam war was not old enough to partake in the Korean war. On the other hand During the Korean War the sniper with the most kills by my knowledge was Zhang Taofang.
