According secularism, the original inhabitants of what is now Israel, were the Canaanites, who were culturally affiliated with the Phoenicians. In fact, the whole of the Levant, Bilad El-Sham in Arabic, in ancient times all used to be called "Canaan." The area of the Levant, the countries that make it up are Israel, The West Bank and the Palestinian territories although not even the Arabs consider them countries, Syria, Lebanon, and Jordan. Also, according to secularism, the Levant has been continually inhabited since the early Bronze age RIGHT as the very last stone age ended. There are some scholars who have speculated, that the first civilization did not begin in Babylon, but it in fact began in the Levant, this has mostly to do with the view that since the first human beings evolved in Africa, since the people of the Levant were the first farmers of human history, they were therefore the first to become civilized, because without farms, you can't have cities.

According to religious views, specifically the Abrahamic faiths, in this instance lets use Judaism, the Levant, specifically Israel, is the place where God stood, to create the rest of the earth. First there was absolutely nothingness, just a great void, then God made the heavens (space) and the earth, and at first, it was just a water covered planet. The very first spot of land, that appeared on this earth, was Israel, and from that spot of land, God formed the rest of the earth. Tell you something you don't learn in Sunday or Hebrew school right? Let me continue please, before you report me to the wiki answers people for an overly long answer; it was in fact from the soil of Israel, that God formed Adam, the first man, and it was in fact in Israel were Eden was planted.

Read the book of Genesis; it states that Eden lies between Ethiopia, and Syria, in a place where there is gold, and onyx stone. Onyx is a form of quartz crystal, that in ancient times, not sure if its true now, was found in abundance throughout the Levant. Now do not quote me on this, because I do not know for sure, but I believe Israel is known for producing quartz, and, in ancient times there was gold there, lots of it. Genesis says, a land between Syria and ethiopia, where gold and onyx stone can be found; also the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, in ancient times they were much bigger, and branched off into many more places. The only land that meets the requirements, of being between Syria and Ethiopia, where there is gold and onyx stone, and which lied between the Tigris and Euphrates, as understood in ancient times, is Israel, that is why therefore by all logic, Eden was in fact in Israel, NOT Iraq.

Like the whole of the earth, according to religious view, Israel was formed by the hand of God himself; of all places on earth, it possesses the greatest spiritual potency. I read in occult books, that because Islam, Christianity and Judaism dwell there, people who practice the occult arts are advised to stay away from Israel. Now, why is this? For all the blood that has been spilt, all the wars that have been fought, the fact that Israel was formed by God himself, is not something that can be undone, God's spiritual residue, still dwells on and in that land. Many practitioners of the occult arts who have gone to Israel, often complained of being physically ill, even sick, and were forced to leave. My own take on their reaction, has to do with the fact that the damned, and the sacred, do not go together. A person who dwells with the dark arts, the occult arts, pollutes their own soul, no one with a badly polluted soul, can comfortably live in Israel. If while in Israel, you feel physically sick, if you do not feel good, if you fall ill every time you go there, it probably means you are not a very good person. Because Israel was formed by the hand of God himself, no one possessing an evil soul, will comfortably, or happily there. The damned, and the sacred, do not go together, and because the spirit of God once dwelt there, his very RESIDUE, not even his pressence he doesn't even have to be there, is so potent, it makes wicked men and women, physically ill.

If you do not believe in God, Israel was established the Canaanites, the world's first farmers, and cultural affiliates to modern day Lebanese. If you do believe, the first resident of Israel, the very first resident, was God, Adam and everyone else came afterward.
