The most common religion professed in Mexico is Catholicism, and it was brought by the Spanish when they conquered the Native American civilizations found in Mexico (as well as most of Latin America).
Since Mexico attained its independence, many immigrants of other countries began to pour into Mexican territory, and other religions began to appear, such as Protestantism, Jehovah's Witnesses or Jewish religions.
On recent years, the Catholic church hypocrisies had their toll on Mexican believers, and now only 88% of Mexicans are Catholic, where the rest profess other religions which are growing on detriment of Catholicism. See related questions for further detail.
