John Winthrop founded the Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1628 because of relgious reasons. Founded in 1630, was funded by the Massachusetts Bay Company. Settlers proposed to establish a sizable settlement in the infertile Massachusetts area. The settlers were non-separatist, and wanted to escape the church of England's impurities Governed by John Winthrop.
