Henry Tudor was the last tangible Lancastrian claimant, seeing as his mother, Margaret Beaufort, was descended from John of Gaunt, a son of Edward III, also the father of Henry IV, the first Lancastrian. The Beaufort's descended from John of Gaunts third marriage to Katherine Swynford and were barred from the throne. However, on the extinction of the male line of the House of Lancaster with Henry VI's murder, Henry VII was the Lancastrian claimant and therefore the "Red Rose"
