Well now, I don't know if this the kind of information you are looking for, but in the 16th century there was a navigator/privateer named Simon Fernandez who, after his career on the high seas may possibly have ended up owning a tavern in London. Fernandez was Portuguese but navigated on the Roanoke voyages sent from England. He was the navigator for the 1587 voyage which took the colonists to Roanoke Island. They subsequently became known as 'the lost colony'. He did lots of other things, too, so this is just a thumbnail sketch.
Maybe WW2 could have been averted?
She was an excellent pirate. She was one of just a couple people who weren't too drunk or hung over to fight off the navy when they were finally tracked down. She was a skilled fighter and a shrewd decision maker. By all accounts, she should have been the captain. If everyone on her crew had been as sharp, vicious, and ambitious as Bonny, they would have escaped the navy that day and gone on to be more successful pirates. Or maybe not being a drunk makes her a bad pirate? Personal preference, I suppose.
To become a senator a man had to apply for admission to the senate and had to meet certain criteria. He had to have the minimum of one million sesterces in his estate. He had to be of good moral character and he could not have been mixed up in any shady financial dealings. Good relationships with prominent families also helped. A quick way to become a senator was to be appointed one by the emperor.
