The person who invented HTML (known as the 'father of the web') was not a computer programmer, but a physicist working at the European Laboratory for Particle Physics in Geneva, Switzerland. HTML's inventor, Tim Berners-Lee, wanted to create a way for researchers to be able to use the internet to collaborate and share information.

∙ 15y agoIn the 1980s a physicist named Tim Berners-Lee prototyped a system to use and share documents. In 1989 he teamed with Robert Cailliau (a Belgian computer scientist) who had a proposal for a hypertext language system. A year later the two came together to propose a project known as WorldWideWeb (W3) to the company they worked for. This was accepted by the company they worked for.
In 1991 the first version of this was used... known as HTMLTags.
HTML and the Internet are born.

The current versions of HTML are designed by committees that are part of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C.) You can find more at W3C.org
