George Valentine Peterson was born a twin on February 14, 1926 and immediately after his birth his mother died. George V. Peterson suffered a childhood injury by falling from an apple tree and contracted polio at age 4. After his injury he was hospitalized and strictly bedridden for 8 years. After being told he would never walk again he defied the odds through faith and determination and regained the use of his leg. He now walks with a distinct limp but it did not stop him from having a successful and full life.
His education gained him employment with several major Corporations where ultimately he would land a job at JPL and NASA where he would make world history.
He is now 88 years old and lives with his wife Irene in Georgia. He has four children and several grandchildren.
