Krampus(slauf) is an evil fertility demon which is thought to originate during the pagan times (pre-Christianity) in northern European countries. He travels with Saint Nicholas. While Saint Nicholas is giving gifts to good children, Krampus is grabbing bad children and stuffing them into his black bag. Later on in the night, he devours them in the mountains for Christmas dinner. Krampus is demonic-like in appearance and carries rusty chains, burnt switches, and bells. Nowadays, people of northern Europe celebrate traditional Krampuslauf processions by having children throw snowballs at the many young men dressed as Krampus.
