Politics taken out of this problem and to view the issue on both sides in black and white is not possible. Its correct to note that the native people of the region at the trun of the 20th century were macedonians. This in many circles makes these people the decendents of the macedonians. However the FYROM's claim is that any country is free to choose its identity. While the right to choose your own identity is valid, you can not infringe on an others for both Greece by changing peoples names and destorying cultural links of these macedonians as well as Macedonian links to Greek idenity. The situation would be similar if China chose to call itself the United States of America. Even though the US claims the culture, history, and original name. China has the right to call itself anything it wants...... Right?
