Mr. David Johnston is the Governor General-designate. He is to succeed Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, C.C., C.M.M., C.O.M., C.D., the Governor General, on 1 October 2010. Mr. Johnston was appointed by Her Majesty the Queen of Canada, on the advice of the Right Honourable Stephen Harper as prime minister.
