Bell designed and built the Huey. The term "Huey" came from using the words/letters UH all the time in Vietnam...the UH-1 Iroquois (UH=Utility Helicopter); all US Army choppers minus the Cobra are (were) named after American Indian tribes: Blackhawk, Iroquois, Apache, Cayuse, Kiowa, Chinook, Shawnee, Mohawk (an airplane, fixed wing), Sioux, etc.

How do you spell helicopter?

That is correct, but capitalized as "Huey" or "Huey helicopter".*The name Huey is applied to the Bell military helicopter UH-1 Iroquois and its variants, including the AH-1 Cobra, UH-1Y Venom, and AH-1Z Viper. The AH designation indicates attackhelicopters, and the U designation means utility. The name can also be applied to the civilian variants, the Bell 200-series (204 up).

Is the US Army still using the Huey Vietnam UH-1 helicopter in any form for missions?

UH-1 helicopters do still see some use.. the Marine Corps is more frequent a user of them, having never received the Blackhawk, but the Army does still maintain some UH-1D and UH-1H helicopters. They've seen a bit of use in Afghanistan, although those are often operated by Dyncorp contractors.

Why was the Huey helicopter known as?

Originally the UH-1 was designated the HU-1 by the manufacturer, Bell helicopter. The DOD re-designated it to UH-1 to conform to their aircraft designation matrix. How the nickname "HUEY" came into being I'm not totally sure but I think it stemmed from the HU/UH designation. Instead of refering to the helicopter as HU-1 or UH-1 it's easier tosay Huey. It sounds nifty when its spoken. The "A" models came out in the late fifties and the pedals had "BELL" stamped on them in large letters. In the Mid sixties with the introduction of the D & H models the pedals were stamped "HUEY". So sometime between 1956 and 1962 the "huey" nickname became so prevalent that the manufacturer got onboard with it and the rest is history.
