The annual speech that the president gives to the congress is known as the State of the Union. The speech allows presidents to report the condition of the nation and to outline their legislative agenda and priorities.
He said it in the third paragraph of his speech: "Together, we have cleared away the rubble of crisis, and can say with renewed confidence that the state of our union is stronger." I enclose a link to a transcript of the speech.

President Obama's State Of The Union Speech was important because he like any other president and theirs was too. It was so important because it was a speech letting us know whats going on in the union states and what he plans to do about it.
