This is a Western-Europeanized cliche from the Middle East. It reflects the American cliche that "One man's garbage is another man's treasure." This means that to the Western World (Western Europe and North America, minus Mexico) the Jihad Extremists are terrorists. However, to the Islamic Peoples of the Middle East, the Jihadists are martyrs and liberators.
This feeling that Middle Eastern Islamics have obtained over the decades is from a misinterpreted portion of the Quran. This incorrectly interpreted portion of the Quran has led to a mistaken view that Islam is an evil religion, bent on the destruction of the Western "Infidels." In fact, Islam is a religion closely related to Judiasm and Christianity. They are all peaceful, monotheistic faiths that focus on strong morality and normal beliefs that separate good and evil: lying, stealing, adultery, and murder.
