Julius Caesar was not lovable. His generosity to defeated opponents, magnanimous though it was, did not win their affection. He won his soldiers' devotion by the victories that his intellectual ability, applied to warfare, brought them. Yet, though not lovable, Caesar was and is attractive, indeed fascinating. His political achievement required ability, in effect amounting to genius, in several different fields, including administration and general ship besides the minor arts of wire pulling and Propaganda.

In all these, Caesar was a supreme virtuoso

Why would somebody kill Julius Caesar?

Julius Caesar was killed because the conspirators thought that it was the only way to save the republic. Caesar's attitude and actions had become overbearing to some and assassination seemed to be the only way to be rid of him.

What did Julius Caesar wife look like?

As far as is known, there are no portraits of any of Julius Caesar's wives. The Romans, even though they did make busts of women, seemed to have been selective about the women that they sculpted. Caesar's wives are not among the preserved portraits.

What caused Julius Caesar's death?

The assassination of Julius Caesar, which occurred on this day in 44 B.C., known as the Ides of March, came about as a result of a conspiracy by as many 60 Roman senators. Led by Gaius Cassius Longinus and Marcus Junius Brutus, they fatally stabbed Caesar in Rome, near the Theatre of Pompey.

What are some reforms of Julius Caesar?

Julius Caesar never really had a chance to carry out his domestic reforms. He seemed to be too busy with foreign affairs. However, he did get the calendar straightened out and made the results of each senate session public. His debt relief act and the land act for his veterans were two of his ambitions that were never completely fulfilled.

Why did Julius Caesar's rise to power frighten many people in rome?

Brutus (and Cassius) felt that if Caesar became the Emperor or King of Rome, they and the Romans would lose the freedomthey had fought for back when Rome began. They claimed that they only killed Caesar to protect their freedom (as no one wants to be under the rule of a dictator) but later on Rome had an Emperor. Brutus fears Caesar's growing power because Caesar, his former enemy, would become too high in power and I guess he felt unsafe (this is just a guess of mine), and once again, the Romans would lose their freedom. No one knows his real intentions as there wasn't a diary or his life was recorded down.I will highlight the answer in bold.

What was Julius Caesar's mum like?

I imagine she was like your mum. It is said that Aurilia, Julius Caesar's mum, was the driving force in his life. She was supposed to be the one who started him on his political career. Whether this is true or not, she seemed to have been a very self-sufficient woman as she never remarried (as far as is known) after Caesar's father died and she managed the family properties on her own.

According to casca did the roman people seem to want Caesar to be king?

Yes, Casca believed that the Roman people seemed to want Caesar to be king based on their enthusiastic applause and support for Caesar during the Lupercal festival. Casca thought that Caesar's ambition to be the king was driven by the people's desire for him to take the position.

Why did the roman senate be likely to lead the opposition to Caesar's growing power?

The Roman senate did not lead the opposition to Caesar's powers. It was the senate that gave Caesar his powers in the first place and seemed to be trying to outdo itself in awarding him new honors. At the time of Julius Caesar, the senate consisted of from between 600 and 900 senators. Only 30 or 60 senators (depending on your source) were in on the plot to assassinate Caesar. Those few men were the idealists who thought that they were saving the republic by their act.

Why was Caesar murdered?

Caesar was murdered because his killers thought that they were saving the Republic. Caesar had amassed too much power for one man, according to Roman thinking, and he seemed to be taking on the role of king.

How many wars did julius caesar fight?

Julius Caesar seemed to have a "hit 'em hard and fast" philosophy about war. He was known for his fast marches enabling him to surprise the enemy. He also had the Roman attitude of winning at all costs. The siege of Alesia with its still traceable trenches is a prime example of this.

Did Cleopatra overcome obsticles?

Yes and no. The main obstacle that Cleopatra overcame was getting back on the throne. She did this by the good graces of Julius Caesar. The other obstacles to her power, her brother and sister, she overcame--permanently. It was rumored that she had her second brother/husband poisoned and it is well known that she convinced Marc Antony to kill her sister, Arsinoe. The murdering of her family seemed to be the only obstacles that Cleo overcame, as the other aspects of her reign seemed to be all a failure, both for herself an for Egypt.
