ADDED:

MacArthur officially accepted Japan's surrender on 2 September 1945, and oversaw the occupation of Japan from 1945 to 1951. He led the United Nations Command in the Korean War from 1950 to 1951. On 11 April 1951, MacArthur was removed from command (read fired) by President Harry S. Truman.
He suggested that the US drop the atomic bombs on Japan. He also was an expert on Pacific Ocean wars, and was an American general.
