Edward VI, King of England and King of Ireland from 28th January 1547 to 6th July 1553.

Lady Jane Grey, Queen of England and Queen of Ireland from 10th July 1553 to 19th July 1553.

Mary I, Queen of England and Queen of Ireland from 19th July 1553 to 17th November 1558.

Elizabeth I, Queen of England and Queen of Ireland from 17th November 1558 to 24th March 1603.

James I, King of England and King of Ireland from 24th March 1603 until 27th March 1625. He was also King of Scotland, as James VI, from 24th July 1567.

Charles I, King of England, King of Ireland and King of Scotland from 27th March 1625 until he was executed for "High Treason and other high crimes" on 30th January 1649. This was the culmination of the English Civil war, a power struggle between the King and Parliament, and the three kingdoms briefly became a Republic under Oliver Cromwell.

From Charles I's execution until 1653, the country was governed by "The Barebones Parliament" which set itself the task of establishing a new form of government without a monarch.

Oliver Cromwell was "Lord Protector of the Commonwealth of England, Scotland and Ireland from 16th December 1653 to 3rd September 1658.

William Harvey, physician credited with first describing the circulation of blood in the human body.

Thomas Hobbes, mathematician, lived from 1588 to 1679.

John Milton, poet, lived from 1608 to 1674.

Samuel Pepys (pronounced "peeps") diarist, lived from 1633 to 1703.

Caravaggio, artist lived from 1579 - 1610
